This is a bit random, but I've noticed recently that my body temperature is a fair bit colder than normal. I usually run below "average" in the mid- to high 97'F range, but over the last week, my temperature has consistently been right at 96'F.

Is this anything to be concerned about? My disease is quite active currently, but I don't think I've been feverish except for one or two occasions in recent months, and I just had the standard set of bloodwork run less than two weeks ago and it came back normal.

I am not sure if its anything or not. But would be interested in seeing what others have to say about this. I also typically run below "normal". I have been in the midsts of a flare up and felt feverish the other day and when I took my temp it was only 96.8 so I was a little confused but it wasnt out of the normal for me.

I have always had below normal temperatures...even in a flare up.  A while ago in the ER, they took my temp orally and said "oh you don't show a fever"...however, they then took my temp rectally (since I was tossing cookies, temp from my mouth was not an option) and I was off the charts high.  Apparently, I don't show an oral fever or by forehead...but you can tell I am running one by my armpit, back of neck.

I think our thermostats are all a little messed up with this darn disease.

I too have wondered if auto-immune diseases make our "thermostats" not work properly. I'm certain that I get that feverish feel when my temp is going down lower than my "normal" basal temp and it sounds like I'm not the only one. I know I've had severe infections and didn't run a fever by what is considered a fever temp.

Normal body temps fluctuate regularly within a degree or so. When I was a young woman going through infertility treatments I got to see this fluctuation firsthand on a daily basis. You can see when you're ovulating by these fluctuations, as well as when you'll start your period.

Anyway, some stay on the lower side of 98.6, me included, when at rest especially. Being thin and taking certain meds can add to the effect.

Welcome to my world. I too am cold most of the time. My average temp is 96-97 and even lower. At times nothing short of an electric blanket warms me up. My doctor checked my thyroid and blood. I am iron deficient, but the rest of my blood shows okay.

Yeah dorri, I'm wondering if I'm anemic/iron-deficient, as that's much more likely than my thyroid. Over the past two years, my Raynaud's has gotten worse, but the last couple months I've felt like I can never get warm no matter how many clothes I have on. Strangely, when I sleep, I tend to get really hot, to the point where I have to put most of my body outside the covers (I used to have nightsweats all the time, but not in a couple years), but I'm freezing again as soon as I wake up.

Oh i finally found loads of people with a similar case!!! :-P
I have always had low temperature compared to everyone else and i get too cold easily too... My friends even suspected me to be a vampire ;-)
On a serious note, i do hv iron deficiency and stuff and my BP was also a bit low...

Logically, and plz correct me if I'm wrong, I think that since our bodies are already running low on energy and that 70% of it is required to maintain temperature, it has difficulty with the resources or something.. I always could feel myself losing too much body heat in severe winters even if i was wearing appropriate clothing... So i thought that since my body is weaker, it has trouble maintaining heat..
I sweat a lot also in summer, horribly lots compared to my friends.. So i guess It has a bit to do with our physical health..
