tips for quicker recovery from a flare

Well... After one and a half year I'm officially flaring. Soooo frustrated. It started 14 days ago. Almost normal bowel movements, but lots of pain in my right side. Doctor said it's from inflammation, and I'm now on the wonderful drug: pred... It seems so difficult to get through this. I have to work 9-10 hrs a day, take care of the family etc. Plus I cannot quit smoking and I'm so mad at myself. Any tips to get through this? I almost thought that this disease forgot all about me. I was so wrong. Of course I have been taking my medications all this time. I'm 100% sure that this flare was triggered by stress. Changes at work, plus two sick children at home to look after, doesn't take much. Anyway any tip would be great, and thanks for listening/reading.

My best advice is to keep up with your meds, eat simple and easy to digest food and get as much rest as you can. This might be a time to call in favors at work and at home so you can rest.

When I flare I eat a lot of "bland" food and stuff that doesn't bother me. Turkey and plan mash taters every night for two weeks? YUM!

I don't know if this is the advice you are looking for, but smoking is known to make the disease course of Crohn's worse. One idea I have is to think about having your doctor prescribe you the antidepressant Wellbutrin. It is the same medication as Zyban which has been used to help people control cravings to smoke and quit. But Wellbutrin has also been seen to be effective to help control the symptoms of Crohn's....so Wellbutrin may help with your stress, quitting smoking and your Crohn's flare. It's worth a discussion with your GI and/or your primary care doc to see what they think. sorry you are under so much stress!

I suggest getting your vitamin d level checked and if deficient, take d3. I take 7000 per day when flaring or deficient.

Thanks so much for your replies. I'll ask my doctor if this medicine is available here in Greece. I really hope that this flare gets better, its so difficult sitting at the office for so many hours while being in pain...
