Well, I was taken off the prednisone by the Rheumatologist, with no anti inflammatory. Within two days I was in a flare, with hands double their normal size in pain. Taking 1 5mg vicodin every six hrs. just don't cut it. Rheumatologist said if I swell up, go back on the pred. I did not! I started taking over the counter Alieve, 1 tablet every six hrs with the vicodin and the pain and swelling became very tolerable, with no abdominal side effects or bleeding. Flare subsided. So as long as it stays this way, I will continue until I see the doc. in late August. Fingers are crossed.

Whenever I've come off prednisone, the symptoms come back too. I always have to taper more slowly than the doctors tell me to help counter this problem and then do the every other day dosing to kick the atrophied adrenal glands back awake. It can get pretty miserable.

NSAIDs can be a flare potential for Crohn's patients and usually are to be avoided, however some can tolerate them at least in smaller amounts so you have to keep an eye out on that possibility. I can tolerate small doses of ibuprofen but I can't do Aleve. Aspirin makes me bleed profusely both gut and elsewhere.

Did your rheumatologist prescribe the pred. or you GI? You may consider calling your GI's office and speaking to his nurse about the flare in the meantime.
