I had a wisdom tooth extracted last month. The surgeon suspected I had an oral cyst mounted on the nerves of a decayed wisdom tooth. That was confirmed by a CT.
I was told I have to have an oral surgery. For this end, I saw two surgeons. One sees that I have to take general anesthesia as he is going to inject the anesthetic in my palate and this might increase my gagging reflex. The other one wants to perform it under local anesthesia and doesn't think my gagging is a problem.
Another point of difference is the antibiotic dose. The first surgeon wants to prescribe a dose of 4g/day while the latter thinks 1g is enough.
One said the surgery will last for 90 minutes while the other mentioned it will be just 15 minutes.
My GI told me before to have it under general anesthesia.
The first surgeon said too I have to raise my steroids' dose to the maximum. I told him that 9 mg is the highest dose of Entocort.
I'm confused and don't know whom to follow. My GI couldn't recommend a dental surgeon. Still, I took an appointment to meet with him next week. Could anybody fill me in? What is your experience w oral cysts?
