Prednisone tapering after 1 week

Hi.
My son started in the hospital for severe pain (diagnosed with Crohns recently). He's been on 40mg for 6 days. Does anyone know how he should taper off after that much time?? Doc wants him to do 20 the 10 for a week, and come back........

Just wanted some imput.

Sorry about your son. This is pretty much a standard taper for no longer than he's been on it. It's easier to taper at that type of drop(by half) if you've only been on it for a week at the dosage he's started on. That's not to say that he won't start having symptoms flare up with the taper as many of us do. Call his doctor if it does as he may want to slow the taper. I hope he does well. -Joy
