So I saw the dr today after my major mishap with popcorn this weekend. She believes that some of the hulls got stuck somewhere along the line. I am actually feeling better today after having some pretty explosive gassy D last night. To be on the safe side she put me on cipro and flagyl for a week and a 6 day steroid PAC. The steroid PAC doesn't bother me on the least as I have had it. I have also been on flagyl and that has been fine although after a two week course it was making me vomit. I am worried about
the cipro and C diff. I have read many ppl on here developing c Diff after being on an antibiotic so it makes me nervous. I have only been on antibiotics twice before in my life so I am not sure if that mKes a difference. Can anybody offer some words of reassurance or is there anything I should stay away from during the week I am on it?

We hope that won't happen. I still eat a quality yogurt when on antibiotics though I don't know if it has been proven to help. The last time I did flagyl it made me sick like that too, but the time before it didn't bother me. Cipro hasn't been too bad on me either. I got C-diff started from using Biaxin (I think; it was something with a "B") for an upper respiratory infection. I was on Cipro and Mefoxin while being treated for C-diff. in the hospital.
When I want the taste of popcorn, I get a brand of popcorn chips from Whole Foods that has sea salt only. They are really good. I can't remember the name--I think it's Popcorner's. I prefer them over popcorn which if nothing else causes me dental problems. All those husks! Hope you feel better soon. -Joy

If you can get some high quality yogurt (best if you can make it yourself) take it at least 2 hours away from when you take your antibiotics.
The yogurt has to have live cultures to help. It will at least partially replace the void created by systemic antibiotics

Thanks guys! For some reason I have been connecting cipro with c diff and I am not sure why. Maybe I am reading it was a treatment but confused it as the cause. I actually love greek yogurt so this shouldn't be hard for me to do. I buy the plain and then throw fruit into my vitamix to sweeten it up.

I don't know if Cipro can cause the C-diff to grow out of control or not. I just know I was on it during that time of treatment.
I looked up the popcorn chips in case anyone's interested and it is Popcorners. This brand tastes more like popcorn than another brand I've tried.

Hey tew....if it makes you feel any better, I was on cipro for a long time when I had my fistula. I never developed c-diff and I pretty much get whatever comes along. Glad you are feeling better....
ps I recently had someone suggest jelly belly jelly beans in popcorn flavor. I don't do well with jelly beans and the thought of popcorn flavored sort of grosses me out...but thought I would throw it out there.

Habs-lol! I am with you. I bypass the popcorn jelly bellies. I like popcorn but can certainly live without if it means three days of misery. There is always chips and dip for the occasional movie night

ANY antibiotic, even ones that can treat c. diff., can also cause c. diff.
