I had an episode of cramping abdominal pain friday night, which happens maybe once or twice a year and my GI lets me ride it out at home. I go to clear liquids, start cipro, and the pain usually improves significantly in 8-12 hours. Sometimes I'll vomit a little, and might run a mild fever. This time however the pain subsided but i kept getting sick and couldn't even keep water down, then my fever quickly spiked to 104.8, at which point I headed to the er. They sent me home after 6 hrs with zofran, percocet, and cipro and told me to come back if the fever returned. Ct showed nothing they don't already know, stricture in the terminal ileum and inflammation consistent with crohns. But, fever spiked high again a few hours after they let me go, and so they admitted me last night. I am on humira and generally feel great other than the last couple days. I can go 6 months to a year without having any subatantial pain but after this the on call dr is now kicking around the word surgery. I haven't seen my own gi yet. She and I have talked about it but more on a 10 yr plan. After less than 24 hrs fever is gone and pain is minimal, and I'm having normal bowel movements. Surgery sounds a little extreme to me at this point! I'm also about to start a new job which is pretty much a dream job in one month. I don't want to screw that up and risk losing the job by being out of commision for an extended period of time. Have any of you been able to successfully put off surgery when they started suggesting it, and if so how? I am normally able to eat a diet rich in veggies and whole grains, every once in awhile that is seeming to cause partial blockage. I like to eat healthy but could I maybe change to low residue to try and at least postpone the inevitable?
