Cipro and Flagyl causing bad headaches but need to be on for 6 weeks!

Please help. I am waiting for surgery to have a colon resection due to diverticulitis. The problem is that I need to stay on Cipro 500 mg x 2 daily and Flagyl 500 mg x 3 daily.

Since starting back on them five days ago, my headache will not go away. If I lay down, use cold compresses I can get to the point that I can rest but it never goes away. I need to save my PTO for surgery. The last post I see on this was back in 2007 and I need some suggestions to manage the headache. I cannot go off because I do not want to risk c dif.

Not only am I like a scared rabbit waiting for surgery but this is making my depression rear its ugly head, which I have had well controlled for years.

Outside of NSAIDS, are there any herbals, essential oils or anything else that I can use?? I will love you forever if I can get some relief.

Sorry to hear that you have to be on those. I never felt very well on them but I don't think they worsened my headaches as a person who already gets migraines. Ice packs help me tremendously when I have headaches. Are you able to eat and drink enough? I would tend towards nausea on those and getting dehydrated could also lead to headaches.

I feel for you as I am in a similar place, although I haven't scheduled my surgery yet. I've had 2 diverticulitis attacks and am being advised to have a resection. I also have ulcerative colitis that one surgeon suspects COULD be Crohn's.

If you don't mind my asking, have you had multiple divert. attacks? Is it standard procedure to be on the antibiotics before surgery, or did you have an attack recently? I'm not finding too many people with both IBD and diverticulitis.
