Flex Sigmodoscopy

I have to have one.....on Wednesday.  Because of my ostomy, I only have to do a fleet enema (which I have never had before either and I am scared of that.......)  I don't think they do sedation for the flex sig do they?  I would prefer to be knocked out but wondering how long it will take and what's the pain like?

Really? I HATE having my teeth cleaned so perhaps it won't be so bad. Perhaps I will ask for a valium when I go in. I will have someone there to drive me home so they shouldn't mind giving me something! How long was the total procedure (like from when you are lying on the table). I have to do my enema at home so am a little nervous about that.

That's actually the one test I refuse to do. Maybe if I knew I didn't have a lot of ulcers and inflammation in there. But nope, not going to be awake with no meds at all for any kind of scope like that. I actually switched surgeons for a fistula one time because he insisted on that test before we even talked at a first visit! Nope, nope, nope. But then again I've got issues with scopes since waking up during one colonoscopy years ago. I have to be knocked out.

Thanks Fig. I am concerned because of my loop ileo that my pouch will fill with air and explode.......fingers crossed that doesn't happen......could be an irrational fear!

Well it's done and over with. They did offer me sedation but since I am more afraid of IVs than the 5 min procedure, I opted for an adavan. It was painful because of the Crohn's inflammation (which tells me for sure now that the Humira is NOT working) but he was able to go up 30 cms and he was happy with that. The decision is is that all of it will come out, a new beautiful stoma created and life will be great.......yeah, that's the adavan talking.

My daughter is asked to do the same on 29th... And very similar reasons...chk inflation as they think humira not working...and to decide next course of meds.....glad that u got some resolution....

Why do you need to do an enema for a rectum that you don't pass any poop through - am I missing something?

I've only had one flex sig. Literally remember nothing about the procedure itself, which I find a bit odd, as I remember all my colonoscopies, however minimally. What I do remember beforehand was the enema given beforehand. I was an inpatient at the time, and the nurse told me it would take about 15 minutes to start working - in less than 30 seconds I was shouting at him I needed to go and to get out. (There was a commode provided for me in a sideroom.) Have you ever experienced the sensation of passing a cold BM? So grim. It was just that first one; afterwards the BMs were a more normal temperature, but I still had a horrible time with cramping and pain.

Ditto with the 3 enemas I was given the night/morning before surgery as well. The second one did such a number on me, I refused the third one at first. Literally could not imagine taking enemas every night: dunno how UCers do it, tbh.
