Whenever I get flu, my crohn's colitis symptoms increases rapidly and stays that way until the flu is gone. I become better(ibd wise) in 2-3 days after the flu. Does this happen to you too? I sometimes get panicked because I think I'm having another flare up. Does it cause a flare up?

This happens with cold, flu, and any other kind of infection for me..Anything that sets off an immune response, it will cause an increase of CD symptoms..This even happened with a tooth abscess I had several months back..I even had an increase response during the peak of allergy season..

Illnesses cause physical stress on your body so it makes sense that it would impact flares. Get a flu shot!!!

Interesting because I notice when I'm under the weather, my stomach is quiet and bowel movements are 1-2x a day and perfect. I always thought any virus that your immune system is fighting off, keeps the immune system from attacking itself; almost like running interference.

I have considered going into NYC and licking the subway poles, no good? haha

Billo, I'm the same as you; whenever I have a viral infection my immune system seems to concentrate on that instead of the Crohn's. I notice it most in the arthritis symptoms, but it only lessens and never alleviates it entirely.

In the first place, flu is caused by virus and since you have chron's disease, flu virus triggers its symptoms. One thing more, during those times, your immune system is also weak and its also a factor why you have experienced the symptoms.
