Work Complications

I have worked with my current company for 8 years but recently my chrons has progressively gotten worse and I have been non responsive to medication and had to be hospitalized. My work is not very understanding of chrons as often I can look and feel normal until I have a flare up and then it all changes. Anyone else struggled with work not understanding? I even had co workers make fun of my illness. It's so frustrating and stressful.

Are they giving you problems regarding maintaining employment or is it that they are completely insensitive?

You probably already know this but FMLA protects your job and if you run out, you can ask for an accommodation under the ADA. I have not worked since the last week in August and that is how I have been able to assure job protection. It seems premature that they are asking you to consider another position. I am not a litigious person but it may be worth consulting with an attorney so that you know your rights. Don't let them bully you out of your job.

I'm really sorry that your coworkers are being so insensitive. I work in healthcare so have no problems with my coworkers. Overall, it sounds like your job is a major stressor right now.

Even though I can't prove it, I know it's holding up a promotion that was supposed to come through last year. I have no doubt that HR is holding out on this due to the time I've had to take off for surgery and the fact that I use all my sick days every year. JMHO.
If your co workers are making fun then you need to bring this to someone's attention. You shouldn't have to put up with that. I guess I'm lucky that my coworkers are supportive for the most part.

Can relate. My boss is insensitive though she knows I have a chronic disease. She knows it's called Crohn's as she used to be an intimiate friend in the past but def she has no clue about the ugly face of Crohn's other than having d and abdominal pain and being absent every now and then for a couple of days. She doesn't know about the suffering we have to go through. She doesn't care about workload. My colleagues could hardly manage to dissuade her to lessen my teaching hours as she wanted me to teach more classes this semester. Their rationale was that I might collapse in the middle of the semester and thus she would need to find a substitute to teach all my classes let alone the extra ones.

I had to stop working all together and go on disability because of Crohn's. First short term, then long term, then SSDI. People just don't understand what we have to do every day dealing with this disease.

This hits close to home right now! I have been close to tears because of all the little mistakes I have been making at work due to hit feeling well. I am already working a job that isn't my preferred setting because I have more leeway in setting my own schedule and still can't seem to hack it at times. It's so frustrating because I'm a perfectionist and get so down on myself when I make mistakes. I also refuse to accept that I can't work. My husband is in the process of negotiating a promotion and feels like I should quit if it goes through, but I just think I need to work to stay sane. Otherwise I just sit at home and think about how i don't feel well.

I am self employed and I can set my own hours, and I work part time. If I didn't have a job like that, I honestly think I couldn't work. I was also working part time for our local hospital prior to my re-section surgery. I had to quit and I've decided that I really can't work more that part time without getting sick. I'm very grateful that I can work at all, because it gives me a focus and gets me up and moving even when I feel bad. Wing Zero, is it possible for you to apply for disability? I agree that there I times when I feel energetic and almost completely normal, but I can't seem to count on it lasting.
