proctitis vs internal hemmies

I had a colonoscopy in December, and at that time the report said that I have internal hemmies and some inflammation in my distal rectum. The biopsies came back all clear (no dysplasia or granulomas) and my GI wasn't concerned about it, so I am assuming my Crohn's is in remission. Lately I have softly formed stool, but when I poop, it is very painful, especially in my rectum. In the past, my hemmies have caused some bleeding and superficial pain and itching, so this feels different. Can it still be the hemmie's, but just different symptoms? I don't have another appointment until May, and I really hate to go back in sooner. I'm debating about trying my steroid suppositories that I use for Hemmies to see if it helps. (Anusol HC) Up until this point I've only had Crohn's in my ileum. For those of you with proctitis, what does it feel like? Any advice? Thanks

Gumby, sorry that you're suffering again. Do you have tenesmus? The most distinctive characteristic of proctitis is rushing to the toilet several times w/o passing out anything. I keep straining and I can stay for up to 8 days w/o having a single bm. With proctitis, I can also have abdominal pain. My rectum gets very much swollen and I can hardly push the enema inside.
I remember once too that my GI told me after a colonoscopy that I have internal hemmies but he didn't bother to write any medication then.
I think you can use your steroid suppositories and hope they put the symptoms at bay.

Thanks minnie. I seem to be able to have bowel movements, so I guess it's probably the hemmies and not tenesmus. I'll try the suppositories. Thanks, and I hope you are doing a little better too.

I've had a recurrence of rectal inflammation and I will tell you that I do not have pain. In fact, the most reliable symptom of rectal inflammation for me is gastroparesis.

That's right - my rectum gets inflammed ==> my stomach stops digesting food. It is miserable.

I've been using Canasa on and off now for about 6 weeks. I have gotten to the point of almost zero blood and really no mucous, but I still am having trouble with gastroparesis so by golly I am going to use the suppository nightly until I feel better.

gumby, my #1 symptom was pain. In fact my whole bottom would ache.

Hmm. Sounds like everyone has different symptoms. I think I'll try the Anusol HC suppositories, and if it doesn't work, I may need to give in and call the GI. Thanks everyone.

Kazbern..have you every asked your doc about Domperidone? It really helped me when I was having gastroparesis from c.diff, and I didn't have any side effects with it. It sounds like you still need the Canasa, but maybe this will help with symptoms in the meantime
