I was diagnosed about 1 and 1/2 years ago with CD. I didn't go on Asacol as recommended by my GI, but went to Naturopath instead to try to control with diet. I did all the testing and wound up with a list of foods not to eat -
mostly dairy, gluten, yeast being the big ones, and maybe 3 dozen others. I was fine for about 6-9 months, but started having flare back in Feb or March this year. We did some more tests, found some of my good bacteria had gone down, and bad bacteria had creeped up. Been taking supplements to get those back in line, which has helped somewhat, but I continue to have constant, frequent mucus. Hardly any diarrhea, but normal BM's are few and very far between. I've never had any stomach aches, haven't had any bleeding since going with the ND, so It could be a lot worse. I did have another weird thing happen about 3 or 4 weeks ago my tastebuds went completely out of whack - overnight. Nearly everything tasted bad, couldn't eat it - granola, tuna, GF bread, muffins, crackers, nearly everything except most meat was OK, potatoes, rice, oatmeal - I couldn't really taste them, but I didn't have to spit them out. Looking around the internet I surmised it might be due to zinc deficiency and have been taking zinc supplements, hopefully that will turn around. I read zinc deficiency is part of Crohns as well.
So my question is, has anyone else gone thru this with an ND - the tests to decide what foods are causing the reactions, and then gone on the SCD diet? Wonder if I would just stick to the legal/illegal foods, or do I have to also include my do not eat list, which cuts the choices down considerably.
