So I'm really having trouble with these humira shots. Quick question, can I use a numbing cream on my skin before I inject myself? I waisted a lot of the medicine because I didn't hold down on the pen like I was supposed to, because of pain. Has anyone ever tried numbing cream? Thanks guys!!

Hi,

I prefer to use a prefilled syringe for that reason. Much easier and I like having more control. As for numbing cream i.e. emla cream, not sure, best to ask pharmacist.

I also use the syringes ... Much more control. It is not the needle going in that hurts but rather the actual drug going in. With syringes you can do at a slow steady pace (with a little toe curling).

You can use ice, ice the area for a bit before injecting, also let the pen warm to room temperature (about 20 minutes) and the medication will still be fine...I've heard others mention using numbing cream just not sure if it's okay since the area has to be cleaned with an alcohol swab so I don't know if the numbing cream will affect the skin when pierced with the needle. Good you're going to ask a pharmacy about it, but ice works if you're in a bind.
