Elevated white blood and platelet count

Just talked to my GI and they said my platelet count and white blood count are slightly elevated. I can't talk to my PCP until next week. I feel fine. No sore throat or cold symptoms etc. I'm not really sure what elevated platelet count means. I know high white blood count is a sign of infection. Can anyone shed some light?

Well, there are several causes of elevated platelets, but in the context of IBD they indicate active disease. Platelets are used as an inflammatory marker.

WBC elevated could also mean a bit of a flare.

Really strange the nurse didn't mention that it may just be part of the flare. He asked me if I felt sick like with a cold and when I said no he said then he didn't know what it may be elevated from. I am also tapering pred (10 mg) and on 9 mg of entocort. I asked him if it may be caused from the meds and he said no.
Everything else was normal supposedly. I haven't seen the results on paper yet. When I looked up elevated platelets of course possible cancer is on the list..... know googling stuff isn't the best thing to do :-0

I don't think there's a symptom in existence for which google can't come up with cancer as a possible explanation for. Try googling platelets and IBD though - a few papers come up on the subject. However, I'm not convinced many doctors know about it. My one does, but I suspect he's unusually proactive in trying to know his subject matter.

Ahhh, the prednisone makes sense for the elevated WBC....it tends to do that.
