Blood in stool

Hello,

My son has been doing really well on Humira for almost a year. At first he was using it in combination with Methotrexate for six months and had to come off Methotrexate due to severe headaches.

This past week his appetite has been next to nothing, he feels full after a few bites of food and this morning he had a lot of bloody diarrhea more blood than stool.

Just wondering if this could be the beginning of a flare or if Humira is not working for him as well as it has been.

Although he has had two bowel obstructions and has had a small bowel resection exactly four years ago this week he has never been through a flare. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Last colonoscopy was last September, one scheduled for December. Called on call GI this morning and told me to call his Doc on Monday where he has no pain and no blood clots. Just had another bout of bloody diarrhea. Really disappointed as he just had his Humira shot on Thursday night.

I think that stool samples are in order, as well. He could have c. diff., salmonella, or something else. C. diff. would always give me bloody D as well as a flare. Make sure that he stays hydrated as well, as D causes more water loss than vomiting does. Eat small meals throughout the day.
