For those that those that have followed my posts the last few weeks I think we finally found the cause of my weird symptoms. Chest pains and other symptoms got worse and my doctor sent me to the ER. A CT shown a blood clot in my lungs. Have any of you felt with this? I know crohns puts us at a slightly higher risk for them and all of the sitting around in the hospital with my mom still hospitalized has probably not help things. Does anyone know if 6mp or remicade increases risks as well?

So sorry to hear this! But I'm so glad they caught it and can now treat it. This is actually one of my biggest worries as my grandpa died of one. I don't know about the medications causing it, but I do know being in a Crohn's flare can elevate our chances.

Thanks Jen, I'm so sorry about your grandpa! I'm still in disbelief because I really thought I was over reacting and was going to wait until I had a follow up with my GI next week to even mention it. My primary care doctor didn't like the sound of it and told me someone must have been looking out for me because the radiology staff and ER didn't think I needed the ct scan that found it and she had to convince them. She seemed a bit startled too because she said had I not called I would have "just died"

I've had numerous DVTs and bilateral PEs twice. No the drugs are not the cause of increased risk ... It is the disease. Once you've had one clot, you are clearly at higher risk of getting more. Mine started initially after major flares.

Tbh whilst PEs can easily be fatal, it is not a given. They can dissipate on their own not everyone will die ... It's only if they shift and cause a blockage (and then death is instantaneous). That said they always should be treated in hospital and are an emergency.

Glad you caught yours ... As with mine it sadly seems more luck than judgement. Hope you get your thinners sorted so there is no repeat.

Yes, always treated in the hospital. You did the right thing by going for sure! My grandpa died a long time ago, mid 1980's I believe. His was caused by a surgery he had. Unfortunately he only went to his doctor, which did an out patient scan, and they didn't call him for a week with the results. Well yeah, by the time they called he was gone. How do you not call someone sooner with such results?

So always better to be safe then sorry with such a thing. It's good that you are aware now so you can get in if need be!
