OK is most resection done laproscopic and robotic now? Or is people still
opened fully? I'm seeing my surgeon tomorrow for my 2nd resection.

My surgery was laparoscopic but I don't know what robotic means exactly

I think they try and do lapro if possible. My last one though had to end up being done
open due to too much scar tissue. Good luck.

Robotic is where they are using a robot and the surgeon gives the robot.

My surgery was almost 26 years ago and a convoluted situation...so I won't answer for me. However, most friends who have resections recently have had lap. Actually most people I know having any kind of surgery I know have had lap. When they took out my gallbladder in 2004, it was lap with the surgeon warning he might have to switch to full
open if he ran into scar tissue from my resection area---yaaa he finished with lap!
Good Luck with your visit today

I had a bowel resection in 2006, and they attempted to do Laparoscopically But my condition was far worse than they thought and I had to be
opened up from under the breast bone to belly button. I had 5ft removed. Goodluck!

I just had a resection 7 weeks ago and it was NOT done laparoscopically. I had 9 inches removed. I also had an abscess that had to be cleaned up in my pelvic area so I think it was easier to just do an
open surgery. If possible, they do try to do it laparoscopically though.

I think most are doing lap. One school of thought is if they do
open they can work much faster and shorter operations are generally better.
A lot depends on your surgeon.
I think finding out experience and complication rates are a good idea.

My son had a laroscopic resection in March and had 4 inches taken out (including TI and appendix). He healed quickly and was back to college in less than a week. He has been doing great sense then and the surgeon said that
open is much more difficult to recover from. I hope your surgery went well or will go well!

My resection was about
6 years ago and was done
open, but that was due to my having partial gut malrotation...which basically means none of my intestinall parts were where they were supposed to be. So they wanted plenty of room to find all the issues. All went fine and my recovery was about
6 weeks. BUt I had been pretty sick for about
6 months and had lost almost 25 lbs. so recovery was not just due to surgery in all likelihood it was the combination of everything
That said, the surgeon pointed out unless things changed dramatically with technology, my next surgery will be
open method due to the scar tissue from the first one. He was pretty matter of fact about
it. And yes, he was pretty clear that I will need another surgery from this dreaded thing...ugh
