I did after flares that were bad enough for several hospitalizations. It's been many years since then, but I do recall having to take them with food and that they were tough on my stomach, but no, they didn't make the Crohn's worse.
My husband has to take them daily due to taking a diuretic and his potassium levels being dangerously low without this medication (it's a medication at this dosage, not a supplement), but his are time-released and he doesn't get the upset stomach that I got. If yours isn't time-released, you may be able to request that type of prescription from your doctor, depending on whether your GI tract can break time-released meds down properly.
Potassium is vital to your heart's ability to work right, so it's important to stay on it and follow your doctor's instructions.
