1st colonoscopy after resection

Hello All,
I had my first colonoscopy after my ileacecal resection. The resection was in November so not quite a year ago.
The doc said everything looked great. The nurse also said to me that the resection looked really good but it was a little tight so the doc sort had to push camera through which may help out in the long run due to breaking up some scar tissue. So I left the hospital and on my way home I started getting pains in my stomach and I knew I needed to throw up. By the time I got home I was in AGONIZING pain.. We all know gas pain after a colonoscopy and I knew it was not that! I threw up a couple times and tried to lay down and wait it out a bit.. Within no time I was rocking due to the pain and crying.. So clearly I knew it was time to go back to the hospital. I was rushed in. They did blood work, X-ray and CT.. CT showed 8" of inflammation. Now, I think it was caused by the 'pushing through' of the camera at my resection site...?
Anyone have some experience they can share of their first colonoscopies after resection?

Wow, that sound's terrible. Can't believe you had such a good scope, only to get sick from it. Not sure that a scope could disrupt any inflammation and cause problems. Sounds like you need to get a round of Prednisone to dampen that inflammation, then consider some stronger meds to keep thinks maintained from there. Have you seen your GI since the CT?

Really hope you're feeling better soon. I have a friend that went 11 years after her second resection in total remission. Hopefully, once you get this under control, you'll be doing much better.

I just want to know what others have experienced on their 1st colonoscopy after resection?

sorry you went through that and I hope you are feeling better. My colonoscopy after resection was fine and I'm still in remission 2 years later. Everyone is different though. I am wondering if your Crohn's is active again and the inflammation has nothing to do with the camera? It is definitely a question for your doc. Are you on any maintenance meds?

My doc was quite surprised to hear the CT showed inflammation. He asked the hospital to send him the images from the CT so he could look himself. So I have the disc and will bring it tmrw.. I sure hope it's not Crohns!

Hey, I just came across this thread as I have a appendix stuck to my small bowel with a potential fistula.. Just wondering how you are doing now? did you end up on meds?

My 21 year old son had his first resection done March 2016 and has had two colonoscopies since. He has not had anything like what you described but he did (does) have some inflammation at the anastomotic site. Yesterday he had his second colonoscopy to dilate it 14mm which allowed the GI doctor to see into his small intestine. He was told he has no active crohn's (YAY) but that he will need to stay on maintenance drugs for the indefinite future to keep it that way. He is on remicade every 8 weeks, a small dose (1.25 mg) of methotrexate one time per week, probiotics and folic acid. I wonder if you need maintenance drugs? Best to you!
