Bruising again - worried

I posted earlier about this issue and Labrodrite advised me to bring it to my GI's attention which I did. He was very alarmed when I told him, repeated the word and inquired if I was sure. Then, he ordered a panel of coagulation and bleeding tests in addition to CBC and calprotectin in stool a week after the infusion and to see him immediately after the results are out.

Has anyone been through this before? Would this mean I might have to stop Remicade? I'm not in remission and have never experienced it before but remicade lessened my symptoms to a great extent and I don't want to stop taking it now.

Ah! How big are the bruises? how long until you get the blood work done? You might want to see a hematologist just incase your GI missed anything. The bruises i get are about the size of silver dollars but no larger and the fact that i am on blood thinners they are expected though still a little creepy. If it hasn't drastically effected your blood work you probably just need monitor it and check blood work to watch it. Just be careful and look out for any that get very painful or worst headaches of your life. Nothing to do with remicade or crohns, but very much with bleeding issues, my mother had an instance where blood thinners lowered her clotting too much and she ended up with a giant hematoma in her leg. I have never seen her in so much pain in my life and she's been through a lot. it started out with a tiny bruise on her knee and her blood count dropped to 5 and required 6 transfusions. She still has pain in her leg and had to relearn how to walk with it. So if you don't have a reason for a bruising its definitely not something to mess with.

Thanks, Lab. My mum has pulmonary embolism and she's on Marevan, a blood thinner. I'm very familiar with the bruises she gets and I have to monitor very well her INR. I had the same experience with my mum like yours. She had a giant hematoma in her abdomen and had blood transfusion, too.

I don't have any reason for having bruises. The last INR test I had, which was years ago, was 0.9 and the normal is 1 but the GP,who ordered it then, didn't seem worried.

As I mentioned before, I've always had very small bruises due to long-term use of steroids.
I took the flu vaccine 2 days ago after I had seen my GI and there are no bruising marks on my upper arm. It seems that they are caused by remicade. And that's why he ordered the tests a week after the infusion.

Tbh, I'm very much worried as I'm not ready now either psychologically or financially to switch to another biologic which will be Humira. I'm praying it will be a minor disorder that would just require monitoring.

Oh dear! Hang in there! I hope you get some answers with the blood work. Definitely can empathize with not being ready to switch. I've been giving remicade more chances than I would for any other drug partly because I don't feel ready to take on switching and everything that goes with it
