Upon recommendation from my GI, I saw the general surgeon on Wednesday. The problem started 2 months ago when I applied an antiperspirant cream that caused me three boils in each of my armpits. I applied then an antibiotic cream and they resolved on their own though I would feel pain every now and then.
When I told my GI, he insisted that I see the surgeon, who is an oncologist as well. The surgeon examined my armpits and I asked me whether I shave them or wax them. When I replied wax, he said that is the problem. He prescribed me a shampoo I have to use every time I wax my armpits in addition to a steroid cream.
As for the main problem of the pain in my armpits, he put me on an antibiotic every 8 hrs and a steroid cream and to get back to him in 10 days. I feel something weird since I started the abx and I am to finish it tomorrow. Since I started it, I have been feeling pain in my underarms. Is it a coincidence? I take the meds religiously but I'm worried. What is the cause of this inflammation or infection? The surgeon didn't sound worried when I told him I have an approaching Remicade infusion but when the assistant told him I'm on Imuran, he got a bit worried though he did not say anything.
Is it normal that the lymph nodes start to hurt after I take the antibiotic? Could it be that they are not that painful but anxiety makes me think so? I know there are several culprits: a compromised immune system, Imuran and Remicade. Should I be worried or as long as the surgeon didn't seem to be so I shouldn't?
