I got a call from my old gi who ordered the breath test. Turns out i do have SIBO. The medicine she prescribed isnt covered under my insurance. The cost is $1074. Next choice of medicine would be doxycycline but im allergic to tetracycline so i will probably be allergic to doxy. Or i can take clindamycin which has given me cdiff a few times. So any suggestions? I told the dr about
my last trip to the ER and the CT scan report. She said said (are you ready for this) "i looked at your scan and your crohns is not very active". Which means its active just mildly according to her. When i asked her if i was still in remission she told me to discuss things with my new gi dr i see on the 23rd. I know i havent been in remission for a long time but she kept saying i was.

Glad that you could finally get an answer as you have been through a lot lately. Did you try rifaximin (Xifaxan) before? I've taken several rounds of it in the last 5 or 6 years. It's a non-systemic antibiotic and shouldn't irritate your colon.

This is the info so you can contact the drug company that makes xifaxan. Sometimes they have programs that can give you free medicine if you have no insurance or are not covered by it. You also can contact your insurance and ask about
the process for an exception and see if they will allow it:

If you have had c.diff I'd be very afraid of the clindamycin. I'm wondering if Flagyl would help SIBO?
Read this article that talks about
different treatments for SIBO too: http://www.gidoctor.net/small-intestinal-bacterial-overgrowth.php
And I would ask for more specifics on what your doc means by "mildly active." Where is there inflammation or active disease? Ask to get a copy of the CT report. Mildly active means you are not in remission

Bucko,
When my Mom had some meds that weren't paid for I contacted the company. The timeframe for approval was a ways out so I called everyone I could think of and had them contact the company for Mom also. It took almost a week to ten days but they helped us out. It's worth the try. I had to be nice....so it was challenging. No one should be denied medication when they are in dire need.
To me active is active...sorta like being alittle pregnant....Lol...

Minnietoty...xifaxin is the medicine that i was prescribed. But my insurance wont cover it
Gumby44...i will definitely contact the drug company to see if i can get some kind of assistance so i can get the meds i need. I dont know if flagyl will work for SIBO but i would have to get it thru iv since im allergic to oral flagyl. The ER dr said i had chronic intestinal inflammation but never specified where exactly.
Clo..i totally agree. I used the same analogy. Lol

Looks like i now have enough outstanding medical bills since october 2016 that i might qualify for medicaid again. I will only cover me for 1 year tho but ill take it if i can get it.

Yeah, it's not a great way to get coverage, but if you can get it, I would definitely go for it. I hope you can.

I had to drive 40miles to my old gi office to get her to respond to my email. She never would respond to my call either. I cant afford the xifaxin at $1074 so i had to get her a prescript
ion of doxycycline. Just pray im not allergic to it. I cant take tetracyclyne and doxy is in same family.
