Hi guys,
Two months ago I developed a painful inflamed mass on my inside buttock, a few cm away from my anus. It was quite painful, never unbearably so but it nagged enough to dominate my thoughts. It looked a bit red on the skin but it didn't look like it would ever break through. My GP said it was likely a perianal abscess and prescribed antibiotics. It didn't go away so I went into the ED and the surgeon prescribed me another antibiotic, Flagyl. It calmed a LITTLE but lingered about so I went back to my GP and he booked me for an MRI so they could assess. I got a letter to tell me that my appointment would be in 2 months (!) so last week I got fed up and went back to the ED where they put my under a general anesthetic and did an incision & drain. I've been getting it packed and dressed for the last week and the stuff coming out has eased quite a bit and I'm feeling much, much better, apart from swelling and tenderness from the open wound. They've also given me one last round of antibiotics to take as it heals.
Here's my question; On my surgery notes it says
Procedure: Sigmoidoscopy (which is a camera inserted up your rectum to look about, I believe) & Incision and drainage of perianal abscess.
But beneath that it says,
Findings: 10 o'clock position ischioanal infected haematoma
I don't have a follow up appointment with my doctor for two weeks and I would really like to know if that means they found an infected haematoma and not an abscess? Are these two things very different when found in the perianal region? And if it was just an infected haematoma does this mean less chance of a fistula occurring, or would it be the same?
A note, I have had mostly old blood draining from my wound. There's also been some wound fluid, but I've not seen any sign of pus at all. Using the bathroom is absolutely fine.
Thankyou for you help in advance!
