Still in hospital.....day 35...

May have cdiff. Going about 40 times. Plus non atop vomiting

Cdiff came back negative. I think I'm going through opiode withdrawal. Since the setons were removed last Sat I've barley had any pain. I was on 30mg OxyContin long acting plus 5 mg short acting as break through. I simply refused meds (or most) because I didn't need it. I had to go back on 10 mg yesterday because of pooping pain & bowel has instantly settled. I've only been once today although it was water. I'm now getting headaches & migraines. I'm seeing the pain clinic tomorrow. This nightmare just continues. Tomorrow is May. I've been here since Mar 25th. I knew the setons were a bad idea from the start.

Was going to respond last night but it was methotrexate day on Friday and I just stopped puking tonight--but still popping the zofran like candy. The darn shot was worse than the pills!! Next week its the pills again. At least then I only puke 1 day or so and start recovery quicker.

Thank goodness the setons are out and you are improving. Are you able to keep food down? Be careful with the zofran. My friend still hasn't been able to wean herself off that.(and I thought we just had to worry about the steroids/prednison and pain meds!l)

Did they change any of your meds? Are you hooked up to an IV? Are they giving you antibiotics? Maybe something will kick in and start working now that the setons are out????

Just thinking here but when I was in last summer, had big D, and was hooked up to an IV for fluids, but refused taking pain meds, I got horrendously bad headaches. I still get them when I have D or C. Some people just have that occur.... I am saying that just in case you feel discouraged when limiting your pain meds and you still have a headache.

After my surgery...lots of things happened...but I was pushing that little red button for more pain meds constantly. ..then I had the rebound effect from the pain meds causing my headaches plus the darn D. Took 5 days to get straightened out. So challenging....but you can do this. I know it is hard but you can.

Try to remember to keep walking the hallways. I didn't the first time I was in and when I got home I had limp noodle legs. You want to be able to escape on your own two feet if you need to. Lol....

Seriously, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I think of you often and hope for a quick recovery for you.

@UB - Dang, 35 days in hospital. I feel for you :-/

I've had opiate withdrawal. It's a long story, but I ended up on more oxycodone than I needed to be for a couple of months after my first surgery. The withdrawal was horrific. I did try to taper but obviously not enough. The first 4-5 days of going cold turkey were the worst. Constant jitteriness, shiveriness, feelings of hot and cold, couldn't sleep or keep still, skin was unbearably sensitive. Physically and mentally, I felt like utter sh!t. After the 5th day the worst of it passed and while I still felt rubbish, it was more bearable after that. Everything went away over the next few weeks, apart from the sensitive skin - I think I got unlucky there. It did eventually get better, it just took months and months.

A pain clinic can hopefully give you a proper taper plan and minimise side-effects, however.

I'm sorry, this post is a bit useless really. I just hope you can get out of hospital soon and that you aren't abscessing again. I'm not surprised you are tearful: I think almost anyone would be in your shoes.

UB, much love and hugs to you! What you are going through is horrific and as NCOT said, anyone would be emotionally exhausted at that point. I remember when I was having particularly rough hospitalization last year I broke down. They had just moved me to a new unit, I thought no one was around and that I had a private moment where I could just let it out. I was at the dam-breaking point with tears when the male nurse walked passed by the door and checked me. It was too late for me to stop the emotions and he sat in the room with me awkwardly while I just sobbed.
