I am wondering if it is safe to get on amusement park rides while being on prednisone? I guess I see them as maybe an adrenaline rush and did not know if that was something that should be avoided?

I don't think it should be a problem. How much pred are you on? Just remember you are immunocompromised while you are on prednisone. Always wash your hands after going on rides and touching things since tons and tons of people frequent amusement parks, you don't want to accidentally take any germs home with you. Have fun!

I am actually down to 12.5 mg at this time. I know being on this drug causes your immune system to be no good and I am careful to wash my hands and take precautions. Thanks for the response.

It's not gonna be a problem. You are on steroids, so adrenal insufficiency isn't going to be an issue. And even if it was, it would take something more traumatic than a fairground ride to trigger an adrenal crisis, e.g major surgery, septic shock.

I've been to amusement parks where they have disclaimer signs while you're waiting in line for the ride that say "not for people with" and they have a long list of disorders, one of which was intestinal disorders. Maybe it's just a liability thing *shrug*.

I searched healingwell and actually came up with an old post of mine from 2012 haha. I wasn't actually on pred at the time, but it wasn't a good time. Certainly I'd avoid any of those fast spin you around like a top rides, as those really got me.

Has uc, and the meds I'm on (ASA 5's), taken my rollercoasters away? I used to love amusement park rides, especially rollercoasters. For the first time since being diagnosed with uc, I went to an amusement park earlier this summer and I didn't have such a good time. I got off one ride and felt very dizzy, queasy, and generally weird-feeling long afterward. A minute after getting off the ride I had an urgent need to find a bathroom and poop, which I did. I'm guessing the dizziness is because of the meds. There was a sign on the ride saying not for people with intestinal disorders, along with a lot of other things... anyone still go on the good rides at amusement parks, or are all us ucer's just bench-riders while others go on the fun rides?

I think that's just America, iPoop. Never seen any signs like that in the UK. My oldest nephew went through a phase of being themepark-mad when he was younger and so me and my mum would occasionally take him and his brother to a theme park. I went on the rollercoasters with the older boy. It was all right as long as there were long queues for rides, so my stomach had time to recover. But if there weren't, I would start feeling really dizzy and nauseous. However, that had nothing to do with Crohn's or meds, because I have had the same problem with fairground rides all my life: it's to do with motion sickness. I'm susceptible to seasickness and can't read in cars or buses for the same reason (trains are all right, because they don't twist and turn the way cars do).

Chances are I was probably on pred during at least one of those fairground visits with my nephews, but I can't definitely remember.
