Diffuse tenderness/pain four weeks after bowel resection

Hi Team! This is my first post to the forum after suffering with Crohn's for over 15 years. I had resection surgery on my jujenum and they took about 4 inches out to remove a small small stricture - I was lucky with the size of the operation and grateful it was done laparoscopically.

I wanted to know if anyone else has had obstructive like pain a few weeks post surgery? I had an episode two weeks after, distention, bloating, sweats, that fortunately resolved itself. Surgeon told me it was likely my getting back into jogging/running that may have triggered it.

Four weeks later (today) I am having overall tenderness in the abdomen, not much swelling, but diffuse pain all over. Is it my crohn's coming back? The pain is steady but not bad enough where I couldnt sleep last night. Just super tender to where it hurts to walk to rapidly (the bouncing) or breathe in deeply.

Any help on post surgery recovery is much appreciated!

My son (21) had resection surgery (TI / Appendix) with 6 inches removed March 2016. His was also done laparoscopic and he was out of the hospital and back to college within a week (so VERY determined). He did have obstructive like pain for several weeks and his surgeon said it was from the cutting and that it would radiate through his abdomen. He was sure the crohn's was returning even though the surgeon (and GI) said it was not. He insisted on a CT scan which he did two months later and it showed no inflammation. Since then he has had two colonoscopies - once to assess how the surgery site was healing and if there were any ulcers (that apparently need to be there for Crohn's to start?) and another to dilate scar tissue from the surgery. Between the dilation AND time he has totally recovered and is thankfully in a deep remission with no pain or sign of active Crohn's. I hope your recovery goes well and the pain abates and that you too can get to a stage of deep remission.

Betty sue - THANK YOU SO MUCH! I too am a little paranoid since this disease is so scary and unpredictable. I went to work within 6 days of surgery myself and have been doing things like Pilates and tennis that may have pushed my insides too much. I also wonder if there is soreness from inflammation from the surgery as well as I'm
Sure the insides are still a bit shocked. I hope your son is still feeling well!

Eelko, you may be overdoing the activities a little too soon. Try backing off for a week or two. You need to give the insides time to heal properly. Yes, you can bet there is some inflammation from the surgery itself. I am surprised that the surgeon allowed you to play tennis this soon.

Stray dog - I hear you loud and clear. I got excited when I started feeling better and the surgeon told me I could exercise two weeks after surgery but I don't think he meant for it to be too rigorous.
