TMP liquid IV nutrients

I was recently in the hospital for two weeks. I had a resection for a blockage. They had a feeding tube in me giving a nutrient call TMP. It left a very metallic flavor and smell of my throat and mouth. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Do you mean TPN? I have been in TPN for about 5 months now and don’t notice any taste. Any chance you were given the antibiotic Flagyl? That can cause a metallic taste in the mouth. Hope you are starting to feel a little better. Are you still on the TPN?

NY,

While on any IV solution with a saline base I can taste it. Any meds they inject add yet another dimension of flavor.

Not everyone has that issue but there is a portion of the population that can.

Hi Myrne, yes I did have flagyll. Did that give you the metallic taste?

hey NY. yes! flagyl can be very nasty to taste sensation, many drugs do.

CLO; after so many years with infusions, i got a tip from a nurse. ask for non -preservative saline. it makes a differance for me. i get all my saline bags and flushes that way. sometimes, like today, when i had my blood work done, they forgot and used regular saline. got a blast from the past with taste and smell, i also cough with the preservative in it. just one deep quick cough, but i never do with pres. free.
