Hi

I had been posting on the UC forum because I though I had UC until this past November when my diagnosis changed to Crohn's colitis. I started Humira on 11/17 and was on a prednisone wean. I weaned off of prednisone 12/26 and by 12/30 starting to feel a flare coming on. I went back on 5mg of prednisone around 1/3 (had my humira shot on 12/29) and it seemed like things were going well as I was able to eat a lot by last Sunday 1/7.

I am currently on 5mg of prednisone and was supposed to start weaning by 1mg per week but yesterday I had a few urgent Bm's and the left upper sided pain increased. My Crohn's is upper left side with some ulcers in the mid transverse. I barely ate yesterday and today had some cramps and saw blood again in my BM. Today I did the Humira shot. This is week 8 of Humira and while I was able to wean the prednisone to 5mg, I now feel like I'm not doing as well or I see symptoms when the shot is due.

I am scared that I am not going to respond. I also had a psychiatrist prescribe mirtazapine for my anxiety which I have not started yet. Anyone familiar with that drug? Any thoughts on my Humira progress. I never have lots of diarrhea just pain, loss of appetite etc.

Hi Countess, when I was on both Remicade & Humira my gi had me on Imuran. Also, you may want to talk to your dr about moving the injections up to every 6 weeks instead of 8. I would want to try the above before moving to something else. Staying on Pred for a long period of time is just not good. Love how it can make us feel, but hate what is does to us, the old love/hate relationship thing.

I am not positive but I am thinking your script is generic Remeron, I could be totally wrong, lol. I do not have any experience with this medication. I have been on other antidepressants.

It is remeron and also the Humira shots are every other week right now.

Sorry, I misread your post this morning plus was in a hurry, lol. I don't know, if it were me, I would ask the dr about trying Imuran with the Humira before switching. My gi said the Imuran enhanced the effects of the medication & helped with not developing antibodies. Of course, this is up to you & the dr.. I went to Drugs.com & read up on the potential side effects & suggest that you do the same. My thoughts are trying the medication on a weekend to see how you do with it. I was on Effexor & did fine, I felt a little off for a week or so & then leveled out. I was able to drive & go to work without a problem. Not sure if the dr told you or not but it will take a good 4 weeks to get in your system to know if its working or not.
