Well I was supposed to have an I &D of a perianal abscess and get an assessment of RVF. Spoke with surgeon last week and explained I don't want a seton but would consider the pen rose drain again. Although it was incredibly painful it would only be in for 2 weeks. He said he'd put in a catheter and take it out 2 days post surgery. (I googled it but didn't really get what the cathether was) .
So in the OR yesterday he announced in a very condescending tone to the team that I refused a seton. I spoke up and said we'd agreed to the penrose....that it was only in for 2 weeks and comes out automatically. He just smiled and said he "didn't know" anything about it then left the room. I'm ticked off at how I was treated but also for not speaking up more.
I woke up without any drain.....no script for antibiotics and with painkillers I can't take. The surgeon left and there was no other doc present. I don't have any drainage . Needless to say I'm incredibly sore. Spent last night vomiting.
Has anyone had surgery and not had an immediate follow up?
Does this mean the abscess was small and I didn't need a drain?
I think it's very wrong not to visit a patient in recovery....I 'd like to know what he found. Isn't this my right?
