Skin rash on buttocks?

My Daughter has developed a typical looking rash on her buttocks. She showed the GI at her last appointment, and she shrugged it off as just a typical somewhat innocent rash that a lot of Crohn's sufferers get. She told her to use a cortisone cream, along with any type of diaper rash cream.

These do seem to get the rash totally under control, but upon cessation, it seems to return. She went to our family doctor now, and she pretty much echoed the same sentiments as the GI.

Her concern is the warnings of thinning skin with continued use of cortisone cream, so the Doctor also recommended Fusedin cream as well. So for now she's going to continue with the regime.

Does anyone else ever deal with this sort of thing? Any recommendations for topical treatment other than what she's been doing?

Have your daughter go to a dermatologist. They should be able to tell what the rash is just by looking, or, worst case, by taking a little biopsy.

A lot of GIs have their Crohn's patients see dermatologists for annual skin checks.

Yes I have had this, it was shingles!! It was round sort of, blisters, warm to the touch.

I get this and so far as I can tell it’s as your doctor said a regular rash. I find some gauze or softer paper towels folded up to help dry it out and clear it up. It works really well for me usually but yes it does frequently come back and takes a few days to get it to go away. If you find a better solution I’d seriously love to hear it!

Do you think it's Crohn's related? Med related? Or simply a rash that anyone could get now and then?
