Has anyone with Cronh's had fertility treatment?

Hi Chloe, I have not seen any threads here about fertility treatment & crohns. I did search back in the archives & only found a handful of posts of women that had treatment before they were diagnosed with crohns.

What does your drs say about this? Are you in remission & what medications are you currently on for crohns? I am sorry I am not of any help.

Thank you for your interest! I have read about increased chance of getting blood clots with Crohn's. I wonder if that is related to all the inflammation? I understand that women should not take birth control if they have Crohn's. So if one can't take birth control, then I wonder if that applies to fertility treatments also? Currently in remission on Entivio with an ileostomy. I will post when I get some answers.

I'm not sure where you heard that women shouldn't take BC while pregnant, but I have NEVER heard that and have been on and off BC the entire time of my diagnosis. Actually, I'm in better remission with BC because my hormones are controlled instead of all over the place. I've taken both the pill and done the depo provera shots without a single issue.

In fact, when I was first diagnosed and sick, my doctors all strongly recommended that I be on BC to prevent pregnancy.

As with regards to fertility treatments, I can see how perhaps some of the hormones would cause some flares or something, but nothing with regards to blood clots.

The increased risk of blood clots with Crohn's is small but seems to be real. It's thought to be inflammation-related but isn't well understood as far as I know. It might be more of a concern with UC than with Crohn's, but I'm not sure about that.

I don't know of any recommendations stating that women with Crohn's should avoid birth control. I did see recent statements that they are having patients move away from estrogen-based birth control and onto something else.

I don't know about fertility treatments with Crohn's patients, but I think it's ok. I found this:
