Last Thursday, I had an MRI dynamic study to investigate the cause of rectal soiling. When I was on the machine table and after I was given 3 enemas (50 ml) each, I started to feel throbbing pain in my colon. This happened twice and then things became better. The following day, I had violent diarrhea to the extent that I could not leave the toilet and was screaming out of severe pain. I thought I had to rush to the ER but after taking antispasmodics pain was bearable. On Saturday, I had another diarrheal bout and so I took Imodium. Ever since I started severe ileal pain and no antispasmodic soothes it. I also haven’t had any bm ever since and if I try, the severe pain I had that made me scream returns. This is weird. I have been doing well on Remicade lately and even if I had pain, it was bearable. This time no. It’s a typical flare up that I used to have before starting Remicade. I also lost weight that all people, who know me, noticed. Does MRI contrast trigger a flare up or does the frequent straining I was asked to do as part of the study (2 times pre enemas and 8 or 9 times post-enemas) cause the flare up? I did the study 7 years ago and it only caused me vomiting for a couple of days. This time, it’s different.
