So i have hread that Macrobiotic Food is good for Crohn's. Has anybody here tried Macrobiotic food and if it really works?

Yea i was diagnoised with Crohn's 6 years ago.

You will probably find this place very useful!

I have no idea if a macrobiotic diet is useful for crohn's but I will be very interested to find out! My mum went on it in the 70's and LOVED it! She didn't have crohn's though...

I went on it when I was first dx, the very first crohns diet I tried...got worse.

Yeah I was thinking perhaps the high fibre content would not be good for crohn's? All of that 'scratchy' food would probably not be beneficial...

hi everybody thanks for replying but i read a book named CONTROLLING CROHN'S DISEASE THE NATURAL WAY by Virginia Harper & in her book it says she has been in a Macrobiotic Food diet for 20 years & free from Crohn's pain & flare up's, medication aswell. So that us why im asking everyone if they have ever tried it? (the most suggested food from this diet would be brown rice and vegitables, sea vegitibales, soy beans, no meat only fish, and lots of miso soup)

Hmmm...may read up on this. Sounds like I could tolerate most of the foods you mention. I have reduced the quantity of meats I eat. The less red meat the better and have reduced the portion size of chicken and fish servings. Since recently going on Humira, I honestly don't know if the "remission" is from the food changes, drug changes or psychological....who cares...it seems to be working for the first time since my resection! Skin has cleared up too! Now if I can get rid of a nasty ovarian cyst and possibly a gall bladder I may just be good to go! Anyway......thanks for yet another diet suggestion to explore!

I think whatever we try when it comes to diets, we have to work carefully. Maybe first try to find out if there is anything our body don't like by using an elimination method. Like red meat for instance: take it completely away for a while, but don't take anything else away during that periode. Then put it back and eat it for a longer periode. If I do react then by getting worse, red meat could be something my body don't tolerate any longer. Me myself- I want to try it on lactose. I am a bit suspicious I don't tolerate food containing it. I red some place that if ppl. have some sort of inflammated intestines they also should test themselves for gluten intolerance and lactose intolerance. One have to work from different angles to find out as much as possible.

Hi there,

When I was first diagnosed my Mum got the Virginia Harper book in the hopes that eating a very natural diet would limit the drugs I would have to take.  I have found that her suggestions do make me feel really good.  And I love the pressure cooker I bought (lots of Macro cooking is with a pressure cooker), it's so fast!!  But I should tell you that I suffer from constipation and the diet of 60% grains really works.  If you have D it may not be as happy.
