Just got home from ER /Confused!

I guess I should be glad that the cat scan didnt show a blockage but I am wondering why I have pain and have been just taking liquids practically since Sunday. The ER at the Mayo said to take Percocet as needed and Phenegran for nausea and call my GI doctor and tell him I had a visit to the ER. They gave me Dilaudid and Morphine and Zofren. I have had persistent steady pain since last Wednesday. I had my last Remicade infusion on Sat. Sept 1st.  My GI upped my Imuran to 175mg because we suspected it was starting to wear off a few weeks before I get it due to increased cramping etc. This is the first time in 20 years I have ended up at the ER with pain and didnt get admitted with a blockage or something else occurring. The nurses and doctor kept asking what I did for pain at home and I told them I usually dont have this kind of pain unless it is a blockage and I end up in the hospital or that I have taken narcotics after surgeries, etc. I will call my doctor tomorrow of course. I had an abdominal MRI done over the summer that showed active Crohn's in the terminal ileum again. I just wonder where this will all lead and I am afraid to eat. Thanks for letting me vent. I am praying that it just settles down on its own and I can eat again. It is a good thing that I don't have an appetite I guess.

Hi Hope your GI will get you feeling better I suppose he will be thinking pred. if you are still in pain and not able to eat. I know it can be hard on a person but we can only stand so much, short term might help. I take some with my Rem. and Imuran. it does get things working better so a person can eat. Hoping things improve soon. lol gail

I don't know exactly what the cat scan can show, other than a blockage, but I know in my case, I once had a large ulceration in the sigmoid that caused severe pain. And I've had very severe pain just from cramping that landed me in the ER. I have had the pulling of adhesions set off bouts of cramping too.

Anyway, I hope you can get answers and a remedy. -Joy

Thanks for the responses. I feel a little better today but still not eating a regular diet. I did call my Gi at the Mayo and told his office that I was at the hospital ER for about 5 hrs last night. I know my Crohn's is acting up but this just kind of snuck up on me because usually it settles down and has not been this out of whack since I started the Remicade 2 yrs ago. The nurse at the ER said you must have a high tolerance for pain to have waited a week. Well what concerned me the last two days was the pain was still around a 7 and I wasn't eating anything just drinking juice, gatorade and Ensure. I tried some soft foods this morning. I hate having to go over my history of Crohn's when I see different doctors because it is hard to describe the pain and sometimes they look at you like it is in your head or maybe tht is my imagination. While I was glad to be able to come home in the back of my mind I am afraid I might end up back there. Right now I am just waiting on my doctor to call back.

Well the good news my doctor called back and I have an appt. at 430pm tomorrow. I expect he will tweak some medication around and run some more tests or something I am not sure. I am not keeling over right now but just feel weak and a little shaky. I am going to try and eat soup and a 1/2 sandwich and see how that goes.
