cant sleep through the night

I go to bed around 10ish and Im up at 2 then 3 the 4 then cant get back to sleep. I dont know. I need sleep as well

Is there any chance you have ADD? Children w/ ADD tend to have opposite reactions to chemicals. Caffeine makes them sleepy as well as other stimulants while alcohol and marijuana and other depresents will make them hyper. Ritalin, a drug used to treat ADD will actually stimulate non-ADD people. If you do have ADD that maybe why the pain meds and ambien do not help and in fact hurt your sleep. Just something to keep in mind. I havent been sleeping much either because of school work and stress. I meditated for 5 minutes last night before bed and slept so much better, and through the whole night. I layed in bed on my back and closed my eyes and pictured just a black dot. I focused on that dot and just let my mind be empty. I did deep breathing holding for ten in and out. I touched my fingers together and felt the energy go through my body and out. I consciously tensed and relaxed each muscle starting from my head to my toes... you should try it!

im on prednisone 40 mg and i cannot sleep either, i know it is due to this. but in the past i have had trouble sleeping becasue if pain also. the only thing that helped on the pain side was to go see a pain mgmt doc. right now i am on a fentanyl patch and this really cits out any pain. maybe if you could get on another pain med it would help.

as far as the sleeper meds go i have tried everything. ambien, lunesta, vistoril, trazadone and nothing helps. right now i am on rozerem and i dont really get relief from that either. im going to talk to my doc about this and see if theres yet another we can try.

i really do hope you can get some sleep. sometimes ill be up for nights at a time and i know how difficult it is to be out of bed let alone function on no sleep.

YES ! Since I have had CD, I have been on every drug known to man. I have had part of my illium taken out with the CD. All the drugs that I was on I could NOT sleep at all !!! I mean I would be up 6-10 days with NO sleep at all, I watched TV. I tried all the so called sleep meds on the market nothing worked, Until just recently (6) months ago. What I had been doing for the last 10-12 years was go with out Sleep from Sunday night till Friday night because of work. Then to sleep I would take a handfull for PM tablets and drink 1-2 six packs of beer Friday and Saturday nights to sleep. This was the norm. about six months ago I changed my PCP for the first time in 10-12 years and found someone who cares. She read thru everything. She said there was a new drug ( you seen it on TV - Roserm ) she gave me samples. Said take one, tried it...nothing. Took another - nothing - Took five the first night and could not fall a sleep. She said Wow, when I went back. Then she said there was one out there that been around for some time and it works for some people, I said Doc, I will try anthing. IT GENERIC ! Its called TEMAZEPAM , I take (2) 15 mg tabs at night and I sleep 4-6 hours. I have not had a beer for some time, I do not need the beer to sleep. My wife cannot believe it. But, let me warn you if you take this drug , the first night I was sitting watching tv with my wife waiting to see how long it would take to work, if it would. I was eathing sandwich and feel asleep in the chair with in 7 minutes my wife said, I said bull. But I did sleep. I said a fluke. Next night I took them and I was standing in the kitchen talking to my wife and eating a banana and I fell on my face on the front room carpet. My wife got me to bed. And another thing with this drug, you dont remember what you did...Wonder sleep drug for someone who did not know what sleep really was all about !!!!!!!! Try It !!

i have had trouble sleeping even before my diagnosis. i have tried everything under the sun from exercising to excercising in the morning to tylenol pm to valerian root to melatonin to sleep md to stopping my diet coke habit to breathing exercises to blacking out everything in my room & sleeping with a small fan...my brain doesn't shut off! when i started having crohn's related pain i finally broke down and asked for some sleep meds. i had been taking 5mg ambien that i got from my mom so that's what i asked my dr. for. as my pain incresased my sleep decreased tremendously and i was moved up to 10mg. well, there is something about generic ambien (zolpidem) that makes me and my mom very groggy the next day and i started getting terrible headaches. next was amitriptyline. that was a horror show. sure it made me drowzy, but as soon as i would start falling asleep my legs would jerk me awake. AWFUL! so now i am on 100mg trazodone. which is working out pretty well for me. it's supposedely non habit forming. it does make me fall asleep, i still wake up during the night here and there. if i don't get up to get a drink or use the bathroom i usually fall back to sleep. otherwise, i am up! if it's real early i will take ativan to fall back to sleep. so there's my whole sleep history! but if pain is waking you up, ask your dr for some samples of ambien or lunesta. i really liked ambien. the ambien cr worked pretty good, too. but i couldn't justify the cost ($10 vs $40).

ugh! well, one thing i used to do was take 5mg ambien and then if i woke up i would take another 5mg. but try the cr's and see if that helps you. jeez, good luck with that.

I know were you are coming from and it suck's to.I never had a problem falling to sleep and staying asleep that is untill the bottom end fell out thank's to crohns.My pain meds don't wiere me but they don't make me sleepy either.I have as well tried sleep aid over the counter and script meds as well and none of them have worked.I have found one thing that has helped with my joint pain at night and that is a heated mattress cover it works for me.It soothes my hurting joint's.
