Moving GI Docs - won't release some records??

I want to move to this other guy (who I like better) that is closer to my internist. Called the office of the current GI Doc and they told me $1.00 per page and there is no way to make copies of the colonoscopy pics so too bad, I can't have them.

Aren't there laws for this sort of thing?

yes there are law.  You have every right to your chart.  You could also ask the new gi to request them for you.  I have every copy of every note, tests & pictures, along with the xrays.  I've been very fortunate, all my physicians give them to me.  Yes, I have also paid for some too.  Here is a link that may help you answer some of your questions.  I ordered the handbook & it has helped me very much, "Know your Rights:  A handbook for patients with Chronic Illiness, special edition for people with CD or UC".  Also, the the lawyer who wrote this will accept phone calls free of charge.  She has given me a lot of free good advice.  www.advocacyforpatients.org  Good luck, let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.  God Bless

yeah have the new guy request them they wont charge him its a scam.

Yes have your new gi doctor request your files. They should not charge your doctor.

When I moved and HAD to change Drs' I had to pay my old Dr $30.00 to transfer my medical files to my new Dr. My new Dr had to request my files.

I also have copies all my pics from my scope, so IMO that is BS that they are telling you they can't make copies of the pics.

unless your colonoscopy was done in the last millenium, the photos are on a disc or in a computer somewhere. tell them to insert a CD rom and press "copy" on the file.

Generally Doc offices will charge you a copy fee to give YOU the records. If you fill out a medical release form thru your new doctor's office and they request the records to go straight to the new Doc, there is no charge.

I agree w/what the others have said.I was having a hard time getting my surgical records sent to my new PCP.When I called the hospital,they told me that it would be 75 cents per page,but no charge to fax them to the doc.Could you imagine the cost,my file from there was thicker than a collegiate dictionary.Good luck.
