Help! Possible blockage?

My son has been in his bed sick all week... he was in the hospital last week. The ped said that he felt like it was a flu with cd... all of his blood test came back in the ranges they normally are, he has never had a sed rate over 30 or an elevated crp... capsule scope showed problems throughout his small intestine, including a sticture in the middle section, and the termial ilium has been a real hot spots for ulcers... he has not had a lot of problems with diarea, but has always gone quite regularly, (3-4xday)

(This week he says that it is different, I don't understand what that means, but it concerns me.)

His ped. told me that they were not going to do anything else because they could not see anything from his blood tests that would need to be treated and his GI told me this morning that she wanted to start him on Milk of Mag, or Miralax in case he was getting a blockage... I told her that he has NOT been going.. I had already been giving him MOM because I was getting woried... I have been giving him 1/4cup of mom for the last two days, If I took that much I think I would be on the toilet for days, but he only had 2bm's that were very watery. However, it did make his stomach go down, and he said he felt a little better... Is there anything else you can do to get things broken down and moving if it is a blockage? Am I over reacting? Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi I guess soft diet low roughage .My blockage involved lots of pain and I did not have gas or BM's .Just keep a eye on things and if he doesn't feel better take him to emerg. if he is in lots of pain and staying in bed. He isn't getting any exercise when in bed either so that would slow things down. Let us know how you make out. lol gail

Great input from all and I totally agree with Zanne I am the same way but my last blockage landed me in hospital ....I now am avid on water drinking .......I too was severly dehydrated

If his belly is continuing to get bigger and he continues to have no BM he's going to need to see the doctor. That is classic obstruction signs. I am amazed that an 11 year old can tolerate the pain. I hope your doctor has called back and is taking this seriously. A blockage that last for a few hours to a day or so can usually be managed at home by experienced CDers, if the pain is tolerated and hydration is maintained. Much longer than that or if he can't hold liquids and he will need medical support. From the increase in symptoms it seems things are getting worse not better.

I hope you hear from the doctor soon and that your son gets some relief fast.

hello first i would like to say your not alone nore is your son.i'v had cd for 28 years 6 surgrys and an iloeostomy.a blockadge .not to take likly.for one over the years my \GI and others have allways said to me if u think your having a blockedg drink gatorade lots of it purple or blue .BUT this can case the runs badly.and dehydration.one of the best test you can get done is an enama it is similar to a barrieum enama but does not form like concrete it is a licquade that does not harden.i'm sorry i do not remember what the excact name it is vary drk brown or black and if there is narrowing in the rectom or passed that up to 8 inches in thay can use a gi feeding tube witch can get as small as a cooked noodle.thay use it alot on people with rectol stumps left in from ileostomys.the other s are a little tuff.but drinking gadtorade saved me from rupsure 3 times BUT becarful it can allso get u vary dehydrate.and if he starts throwing up everything even water  call an ambelancs he's blocked.?? have to GIs done any scopes and how long ago.and remember just because docs say and labs say and cts mris say there's nothing there that is not allways the case my last three surgrys have gone that way but whan it came time for surgry the surgan has said to me how did u live with your guts in that bad condision fishurs adhesions and scartissue everywhere.so don't give up push them till u get what your son needs i no if i had lisend to them i would'nt be writting this best of luck 2 your son & u are not alone
