Well, I made an appointment and saw a new GI doctor on Tuesday who agrees with me that my current treatment is not working and should be changed. We spoke for about 45 minutes and he took a lot of notes on his laptop. He explained to me that his medical practice keeps everything electronically and so long as I didn't mind, he'd be typing during our discussion. I was feeling pretty good about this physician until his cell phone rang and he answered the call right in the middle of my appointment. The call didn't sound as though it was an emergency and he didn't apologize afterwards. I wasn't impressed. Am I expecting too much for wanting the physician to focus his attention on me? I decided to just let it go and not say anything.
My previous GI, whom I've been seeing for the past 25 years, is very old fashioned and carried only a pager with him that he rarely turned on unless he was "out of the office". Maybe he was too old fashioned and that's why the treatment he's had me on (pretty much unchanged since my original diagnosis) is no longer effective.
Anyway, before the new GI can suggest a new path to take, he wants me to schedule a round of procedures so he knows exactly what he's dealing with. He's requested copies of my medical records from my previous GI; however, he's insisting on a Colonoscopy for me so he can make his own diagnosis. It makes sense, I guess.
The colo prep, for me, is the worst. I cannot drink the GoLytely mixture because it makes me vomit. In the past, I went on a liquid diet four days prior to the procedure and two days prior, began taking Dulcolax and Fleet enemas in order to clean my system. The new GI has prescribed Osmoprep for me, which consists of taking 32 pills orally, beginning the day before the procedure, which will clean my system.
Has anyone taken this prep procedure and what can I expect?
Thanks,
Michael
