Diagnosing Crohn's vs. UC

Does anyone know if Crohn's or UC can be diagnosed through a blood test? Or does a GI have to scope you, take a tissue sample, and then send it off to a lab?

I was first diagnosed with Crohn's after a colonoscopy, and the GI diagnosed me just by looking at my colon. Can they really tell the difference between Crohn's and UC just by looking?

Thanks for any input you have on this.

as far as I'm aware, they two disease do have slight differences. Though, I would think that it would be difficult to tell which is which just by the naked eye, it's still good practice to get biopsies and check them out under a scope just to be sure.

They COULD if you are a classic, textbook case of CD inflammation. However, this is nearly a minority group of us. Everyone being different, their Crohn's seems to be a bit different. The textbook description of CD in the bowels is diseased tissue* healthy* diseased* healthy. But the skip areas can often be feet between them.
