I have been diagnosed on and off with Crohn's.............I am wondering how often do "normal" people have a high white blood count? I have had several ER visits and other visits to the MD that reveal a high white count. Does this happen several times a year to "normal people"?

I do not think so! Almost always it means INFLAMMATION which we al ready know us with Crohn's have. I am not sure that NORMAL people get this unless they have an infection of some sort!

I am not sure @ the high white count...I can tell you however I had several emergency room visits and admissions in a short period of time and it took over six months to get a proper diagnosis of CD. Plus I had complained for yrs prior @ my stomach pain. That was over 10 yrs ago.

Gigd, what do mean diagnosed with CD "on and off" over the last few years?

High white blood cell counts can happen for a lot of reasons: infection, inflammation, allergies, taking steroids (like prednisone), and strong emotional or physical stress. Did the doctor do a differential to see which types of white blood cells are high? Knowing that can help determine why you have a high white count. As for how often "normal" people have a high white cell count, I don't know.
