colonoscopy showed no crohns

 well i got back my results from colonoscopy today. the surgeon said there was no evedience of crohns.Yipee!. i still have upper and lower gi symptoms that are closley related to crohns. is there any other test out there to confirm whether or not it is. im hoping for ibs or something simular to that but my symtoms dont seem consistant with ibs. i have scheduled a appointment with my pcp to discuss this but sometimes drs dont want to go against their colleagues diagnosis. (oh yea the surgeon only read the biopsie reports and didnt seem interested in speaking to me about what other concerns i have, isnt that typical?). im sure some of the other symptoms i have had could be related to common conditions but they add up to ibd or crohns(here they are skin tags, anemia, underweight, constipation, bowel obstruction, loose stools(not the dreaded d word) tested for parasites both times, came back negative, fatigue, severe joint pain, night sweats, bloody mucus between bowel movements, abcesses that had to be drained on my buttocks, (thought they were boils).  any info would be appreciated. thanks, daize

Agreed with what Mike says, because you could have CD in your small bowel...your symptoms are CD related....abcesses, anal skin tags, ect...you should be sure to get a small bowel follow through as well.

My colonoscopies are fine too.  Get the video capsule test and they can actually see your terminal ileum, if you really want to know if you have crohns.

I agree that this can be so hard to conclusively diagnose, but what does everyone think of the Prometheus blood test?

I don't think my diagnosis would be Crohn's at this point except that I was given this blood test did predict Crohn's (predicted IBD, specifically Crohn's as upposed to UC) and it is supposedly pretty accurate.

i agree with the rest.
crohns can be active on a microscopic level, it may even be located in another area that the colonscopy doesn't reach. typically, we've got 18 feet in there, the scope only goes like three? bloodwork doesn't always show it either.
a pill cam or upperGI smallbowel followthru might be another option for you to consider.

Five years ago I had extreme neasea.  I was dry heaving and passing out.  I was in horrible pain.  After a day of Hell and a calm weekend the doctor sent me for a CT scan during which they injected iodine into my vein.  Immediately the technician started asking me questions about what part of the country I was from and if my family had a history of Crrohn's Disease.  He said my Ileum was inflamed and he refused to let me leave the facility until I got a prescription for Asacol from my doctor.  I took it for a week and then for some reason I thought it had quite working and was hurting me.  The doctor told me to stop taking it but ordered a small bowel follow through and a colonoscopy.  Both tests showed nothing.  My GI doctor was baffled, but told me to eat fiber and call me if I had any other symptoms.  Five years later I thought I was having an apendicitis attack and the emergency room doctor ordered a CT scan.  This time I was told that a long section of my ileum and over half of my colon was inflamed.  Once more I was sent home with Asacol.  This time however the doctor sent blood work to California for special Crohn's related testing and it came back IBS:  specifically Crohn's.  My new GI doctor said that he could do another colonoscopy, but it probably would not tell the complete story and may show nothing at all.  He said that based on my past history, the blood test and the CT scan that I definately have Crohn's.  So, I guess that diagnosis is something that can be based not just on one test, but on the sum of many events, blood work and tests.  I'm still trying to figure out how to deal with the knowledge that I have Crohn's.  On Friday they are doing another small bowel follow through and I'm wondering if it will show anything at all.  I agree that if we weren't in pain why would we be willing to take so many pills each day!!!!  My boss thinks that I obsess too much about medical issues.  I can't help wondering how she would deal with the pain of Crohn's!!!  I'm sure she would change her tune and be a lot more sympathetic!!!! 

 

I alos had a colonoscopy resulting in...Oh everything looks good....Had a samll bowel follow through to show Chrons in the small intestine. Colonoscopy is great for many reasons but can "miss" CD
