Strange shooting pain in leg near knee

I started having some shooting pain in my right leg near the knee yesterday. I first thought it was a bug bite or something because it first felt stinging and then tender to the touch with a light red area there. I went to urgent care and he said if it was a clot my right calf would be swollen and sore too. He mentioned phlebitis and said to take Ibuprofen or Tylenol for pain and use an ice pack.  I know Ibuprofen is a no no, but Tylenol doesnt help at all. The pain feels fine when I sit just sore but when I walk it is very sore and shoots up and down that side of my leg.  We are planning to leave town on Wednesday for Disneyland. I see my GI doctor tomorrow and will mention it to him too. Is there anything besides Tylenol that would help? Has anyone else had something like this come on all of sudden?

I am wondering that too. I am due for Remicade again at the end of this month. I took a nap yesterday and woke up with my leg hurting. I am currently taking Prednisone and will be tapered off it soon. My doctor at Urgent Care said that if it was clot that I would be in more pain. I am not sure what to think. I had a clot in my right arm in 2005 and could hardly move it. I ended up in the ER and 6 days in the hospital. The Urgent care doctor said that if it gets worse and I can't walk at all to go the ER and have them do a Doppler Ultrasound. I was in the hospital in Sept. for 9 days and they gave me shots in the stomach to pre-empt possible clots , etc. I was able to sleep last night and I took some Percocet.

I just wanted to share.. I'm kind of a moron.. I took some potassium last night about and hour before bed and I didn't have any pain other than my typical dull aches. I think that I found the problem..

Well, my GI initially thought it was a superficial clot and ordered an ultrasound. It came back negative. I got a huge bruise where the pain was and then throbbing, but no more shooting pain. Today the bruise is lighter and they were going to order an MRI but I decided to wait a few days. Another doctor told me I must have injured it and I told them I didnt do anything to my leg at all. I also started taking potassium. I just take a Percocet if the pain gets too bad which has not been the case recently.

Only an NSAID would really help by decreasing the inflammation. Since you have Crohn's, you might suggest Celebrex - it's a COX-2 inhibitor that apparently isn't contraindicated. Otherwise, I would just take the ibuprofen at 200mg once or twice. I'd only stay away if I were already in a flare. I myself take it now and then for migraines.
