First of all, I want to say hello to everyone, I have been a long time lurker, first time poster.
To give a little bit of history about myself, I was diagnosed with Crohn's in DEC/97 and at that time had a resection taken place. I was placed on solofalk (sp?). Three years later I moved to Ontario, and with a new job and no benefits. I could not afford my meds, it was a tough choice but I was feeling fine and decided to stop taking them.
Seven years later I am finally getting started on my dream career and guess who decided to pay a visit. For the past seven years I have been without medication and in all honesty have had it very easy with CD. Over the last few months I was having mild attacks here and there, until last week I had a very major attack, and checked myself into the hospital.
After a few days of hydration and bed rest, I was lucky enough to get a colonoscopy done right away and found a new doctor to help me in the future. Unfortunately my crohn's is back and in full force, seeming to make up for lost time. My doctor gave me two new medications which I have researched to an extent. However I am just curious as to what the general user opinions of these medications are. He gave me Asacol first, and stated he didn’t want me on this long term, just for a short time. The main medication he gave me is Azathioprine.
What I have read and understood of Azathioprine is kind of scaring me, it just seems everything is hitting pretty hard this time. Normally I am very passive and acceptable, just reading some information of this drug has me wondering.
Thanks, it was nice to get that out.
