Crazy Hunger Pains??

Hi.  I decided to join the forum today because I think it would really help to talk with other dealing with Crohn's...I am feeling so exhausted. I have so many questions for you all but here is one for now :-)

I went through a long period where I barely ate and never had an appitate.  What's wierd now is that I am painfully hungry all the time, no matter what I eat.  Has anyone ever experienced this?

What medication(s) are you taking. Steroids are known to dramatically increase the appetite.

Colazal, Entocort and Xifaxan. When I told my doctor about the hunger pains he perscribed the Xifaxan. But I don't think its working.

Your Entocort is a steroid. I take regular prednisone and when I was up at 80mg/day I could eat and I would not feel full where as a week before one tenth of what I had eaten would make me feel full.

Hi and welcome to HW.  As others have mentioned, if you are on steroids your appetite could be ravenous.  However, I have been off them for a while and I am still finding that I am very hungry all day.  Could be because my diet consists of a lot of carbs and not much fiber which would keep me satisfied longer.  Either way, having an appetite is usually a good sign.

Hi and welcome.

I had intense hunger 24/7 for a few months and an endoscopy showed I had chronic inflammation of the antral gastric mucosa. When I pushed on my stomach there, the hunger sensation would increase. My doctor put me on Protonix 40mg. At the same time I made numerous diet changes so I do not know what helped more. It finally went away but has been back a few times, for less time (thank goodness).

So...you might want to be evaluated for gastritis.

Hi and welcome to HW .You mentioned you are exhausted have you had your B-12 levels checked ?Alot of us CDer's take B-12 so was wondering. Glad you have joined us and ask your questions it really is great to have someone to talk to about CD. lol gail

Both gastritis and steroids make one feel hunger. With gastritis follows pain. With steroids no pain...

sounds like your doc thinks you might have an infection...but gastrisis can be assocaited with crohn and can cause wicked hunger pains
