DUAC Gel Question?

I was prescribed Duac Gel for acne.  It is a topical gel with CLINDAMYCIN and BENZOYL PEROXIDE in it.  According to the paperwork your not supposed to take it if you have crohns or any GI disorder, but my dermatologist (who knows about my crohns) says it is ok because it isn't nearly as potent as a topical gel in comparsion to a pill form. 

Does anyone have any experience with this RX??  I don't know what I should do.  I don't even know why the clindamycin is bad for people with Crohns.  Help!

Clindamycin is an antibiotic. Some antibiotics taken in pill form can cause problems in the intestines. The amount you absorb through the skin from the gel should be very minimal and should not bother your gut. I was prescribed a very potent NSAID in a cream to apply to a tendon problem. I was told the amount I absorbed through the skin should not effect my guts. I hope the new med helps the acne.
