 I just got home late last night from a three day Harley ride with three good friends. We made it through the bone jarring bad roads of Louisiana into the smooth well kept roads through the hills and turns of Mississippi. Yes we had to stop many times for my old guts and bones to take a break but no one complained. We laughed, joked, played tricks on each other and enjoyed the road. There is something about being on a scenic road at sunrise with the rumble of four motorcycles that I cant explain. Your not inside a little closed an separate environment of a car. Your in the cold wind, sounds, smells and feel of all that is around you. So what is the point of this little story ? Truth is I did not understand until this morning. It's simple really. I am very sore and tired today, but I have good memories. I went, and I had a great time, even though I have this @$&*! disease. I am not ready to roll up into a ball and stop living. Yes I had to endure more pain and discomfort to do this, but it was worth it. I'm still living.

that sounds wonderful cher im glad you had a good time. and that you didnt let anything get the best of you! i think we need stuff like that every now and then, it makes us happier and i think stronger. anway im glad you had fun, ill email you soon.

Good for you!!! I have tired so hard to still do all my hobbies. I love to sew and this weekend I did the kids Halloween costumes. Afterwards I realized how relaxed I felt. Yes, my back and joints ached some but I overall had zero stress and felt kind of good. I think no matter what we need to do things we enjoy even if they are a little harder with this disease! Karen

Yipee!!!!!  I am so glad to hear you had some fun despite this DD.  You really deserve the fun and the focus on some positive.

Oh and thanks for one more "tough" image of a "Harley biker" :-)   Now that my 22 year old niece is riding her father's first Harley, I had a whole new image of someone on the bike....let's see a CCFA ride.  My niece (suspected CD) and my sis (UC) on their Harley's next to Sniper.  It will be pit stop hilarity.

Oh and Sniper...is it true there is a bike out there with an automatic clutch???  If there is, I may consider bikes for my husband and me.  Then we can all ride from rest stop to rest stop together

I was in remission the entire time I had horses. I had to recently sell my horses because of school, and of course I flared big time. Coincidence?

I get the same feelings while riding my horse, but without the rumble, lol. Riding a horse is the closest feeling I can get to "dream flying." If you've ever had a dream that you could fly, you'll know what I mean.

That sounds so awesome Sniper. I have this picture of the Road Hogs in my mind. Instead of running into things I picture you quickly laying your bike down and running to a bush or bathroom (whichever was closest).

I really envy you. I want to travel, but don't have the courage up yet. Probably because where I want to go (Mexico and Europe) I have to worry about food so much. So glad you had such a memorable time.

How is your wife doing these days?

So glad for you Sniper.......it will be soon time to put my Harley to bed for the winter.........

I will be going on a ride this weekend though weather permitting ......Cait has asked we go one more time ......

Good for you!!!

Thats always been my point. I'm so afraid that one or both of my kids will get this DD that I never let it stop me from doing anything. So that if they ever get the diagnosis, they will have seen that it doesn't have to stop you.

I haven't been on a motorcycle since I was a teenager, but it was a thrill ride. I'm glad you had a great time!

yeah   scool tongue Good for you Sniper!

Wish I had the bucks for a Harley.  This broom sucks!  My resect scar is in competition with a lovely forearm scar I received while dirt bike racing when I was young.  Seems 35 miles per hour in a curve, between a concrete building and a brick building with appx. 15ft. between them is not condusive to the physics even when you lay the babe on it's side!

Glad you had an awesome day and hope you can squeeze in a couple of more before it gets too cold!

Awesome! Its good to know that other people with this darn disease are trying to think positive. I suffer from severe depression and have found that anything I can do that I enjoy helps. Rather that sitting here and thinking about the pain I am in all the time. Stress causes my CD to flare even more and it helps when you are in a better state of mind and actually want to live a normal life.

Nanners, my wife is doing well. Almost done with the worst of the chemo. I think she was glad to get rid of me for a few days too. At least a little. I dont know what I would do without her.
HHF, I dont know about that auto clutch. I like mine just fine with the clutch lever, but , I do know they make some large training type wheels for bikes now. Maybe when I get too decrepit to put my foot down I will get a set of those.
Lyn, it was 48 degrees at 4:30 AM when we left. Add to that 70 mph and you may say it was a bit cool. Had my leathers and my ski mask and I was just fine. Guess thats a plus about having diabetes, when you have no feeling in your toes, they dont feel as cold.
B Hilda, I have a few of those, what the $#!+ was I thinkin scars too. I've been riding sense I was 11. Wish I had todays mind in that younger body.

Sniper...way to go.  Maybe biking is what I could do to replace boating...

that is one hobby i had to give up...no place for a pit stop, can't afford and don't want one big enough to have pot on board....and hang it over the side is too gross, too much polution and extremely uncomfortable...so for the sake of everyone and our enviroment I sold my boat and now only fish from the seawalls and docks.

Nanners....I travel all the time....weekly for my job.  My job mostly requires travel just here in the USA...but I have had to go to Africa and Europe for some business.  My wife and I try to go to Costa Rica at least twice a year and we just got back from a week in the mountains of New York (plus 3 days in NYC)....I just go at my pace, eat what I think will work best and I do fine...the fact is I have learned to let traveling be my stress reliever and many times I do better on the road, especially when on vacation.  Africa was almost incident free, yet when I first left the US on the start of my trip I was in the middle of a flare.  Follow what snipes says...don't let this DD hold you back....ever!

I am happy to hear you had a good ride Sniper!

I myself find that when I get out and do the things I love, I feel much better than when I am just sitting around the house. This weekend i went to my favorite fishing spot with my brother and a few friends. I had a blast and was definitely sore after the long hike through the riverbed to get to the reservoir, but it was worth it, especially when we got to fry up the naturally grown Rainbow trout!

My husband and I had a Honda Shadow before we had our baby 18 months ago. I'm not an outdoorsy kind of person, but I did love riding on that bike - even during the hot steamy summer months here in LA! There is something really fun and cool about it. I told my husband that we're getting a Goldwing when we're old and gray!

hspenser,, I have a 17 foot whaler. I keep a port-o-potty in it and I have a tarp I can throw over myself when the need is urgent. I dont let this DD stop me from fishing either. Life is short..
