Hello -
I usually do most of my posting under the Ostomies, since I have one, but it is because of CD. So I thought I would check in with all of you for the first time!
I am going to have an IV of Reclast done for the first time today and was curious if anyone else Here has had this IV drug?
I went thru the 2 yr Forteo injection therapy and had absolutely wonderful results. So much so that they had to cut back a bit on my dosage because of the discomfort of the bones becoming denser so quick. Forteo took me from osteoporosis back to nearly normal bone density in under 2 yrs. I was really fortunate and feel blessed, & thought I was outta the woods, so to speak!
Anyway, long story short, I now am finding out now that I have an absorption issue with Vit D, even on large doses of supplements. So I'm now on RX - 50,000 IU once a week for 3 months, then lab recheck. Right after the dose each week, I get pretty nauseous - I guess I'm just pretty suseptible to this nausea thing anyway.
Meanwhile, the doc is addressing this osteo issue with Reclast. I cannot tolerate the oral Boniva, Fosomax, Actonel due to stomach irritation. (just got gastric ulcer healed last year after many, many years living with it!)
Do any of you know of anyone that has taken Reclast or have you taken it? Did you have any side effects immediately following the IV? One of the side effects is nausea. I'm concerned that I might want to pre-med before I have the IV....
Thanks everyone in advance for any light you can shed on this topic...... this HW.com forum is the best!!!
