Mystery Diagnosis

I love this series, watch it whenever I can and now I even have my husband watching it with me.  Last night that had a case on about a woman that developed severe gi problems after eating food in France.  She had on and off diarrhea for years which took over her life, became severely depressed, etc  She described what it was like to map out everywhere she went to know the location of bathrooms, etc, had several incontinence incidents.  Like so many of us she had to find someone to diagnose her problem since no one else seemed able to - I had to laugh at this point- so she did a google search on "diarrhea- New Jersey" looking for a doctor who specialized in finding the cause close to where she lived. She had had an appt with a doctor in the Bronx first but decided at the last minute that no way could she make this trip with her bathroom issues.   The doctor she found did all the usual tests which came up negative (they didn't mention that crohn's was negative but did mention crohn's and then said all tests were negative) and then told her she had "Habba syndrome" (I think that was the name- it was his last name, he named the syndrome.I'm doing this from memory, I know it was an odd name)  The problem was her gall bladder putting out too much bile.  I know my gi told me "when all else fails, blame the gall bladder"   

She could have been pegged for crohns, UC or even IBS or C-diff.

"Adult diapers" were mentioned!! She told how humiliated she felt when she put on her first adult diaper. they even showed it. I have to laugh in that show whenever there are bathroom issues for any reason they keep showing the toilet bowl, the seat going up, etc.

Yes, I also thought of Crohn's immediately. When the doctor mentioned that possibility my husband looked over at me but I haven't had the extreme bathroom issues so he couldn't identify with that. Even though they concluded it was her gallbladder, we *know* that might not have been end of story but I'm glad she got some relief, even if temporary.

This has to be my favorite show. Some of them seem obvious, how could anyone miss it, but others are really informative. There is another show on the same channel about unusual medical issues, I forget the title of the show but if you ever see "I am my own twin" watch it. Nothing to do with CD, but really interesting.
