Would Imuran possible increase allergy to pets?

My doc is pretty much insisting that I start on Imuran. He wants me to go to Humira but I must start Imuran first. I already have asthma and slight allergies to my pets. But, after having my cats for 13 years, I refuse to do anything to compromise their life with me. They are one of the best things for my stress relief. Every drug I have tried so far (entocort, prednisone, asacol) has given me a reaction. I am so worried that going on Imuran will change my allergies to my pets. That would be the last indignity of this DD.

I can't speak for pet allergies, but my hayfever greatly improved when I took imuran and remicade/humira.  I think it is because it suppresses your immune system and you don't react so strongly to it. 

I have/had pretty significant allergies my entire life. My sneezing fits shocked people by their length. My trips to the hospital for asthma related episodes put me on the "frequent flyer list."

Fast forward onto Remicade and imuran....my allergies and asthma attacks DISAPPEARED!!! After my loading doses of Remicade, I no longer needed to use three different inhalers a day. I reduced my oral asthma meds in half. Have not had one asthma attack since beginning the biologic meds. I stopped sneezing which everyone noticed. No longer needed Claritin or Benadryl.

My GI and rheumy both said that my response is pretty typical, that people with allergies and asthma see a big improvement from Remicade.

Wow - Ides, that sounds like I need, I've been on Imuran for 2+ years now , my crohns has been controled - except for the divertiliculosis, but my allergies and immunsystem are wrecking havac with my life - I had sinus infections 3-4 times a year and my system going down and unable to recoup befor ethe next bout, last Feb I even had my sinuses fixed - surgery to open the narrowed passages and fix a deviated septum, helped sinuses but then everything has hit my lungs and hard - always had a real mild problem with asthma but never needed meds for it til now have not been able to get my lungs under control since July, one infection after another - spent thankgiving in hosp for p-monia 17 days of levoquin and still signs of infection and now back on another antibiotic again..... didn't want to spend Christmas in the same place...... I know my system stays down and is real hard to build up and the Imuran is not helping......

Actually, I have had the opposite effect from the other posters. However, I am not on Remicade or Humira. Since being on the Imuran, my allergies to the cats is much worse. Whenever I go to my ex in-laws' house within half an hour my esophagus is burning, my throat and ears are itching and I lose my voice. Even if the pets are in another room. Maybe the Remi/Imuran or Humira/Imuran combo produces different results??? Or maybe I am just a freak of nature. LOL. Either way, my pet allergy is only compounded by the Imuran.
